It’s been about a year since the home of the Atlanta Braves underwent a massive makeover. The $1.1 billion project transformed what was originally Turner Field into the most technologically advanced stadium in the nation, now known as SunTrust Park. And, according Greg Gatti, the CIO of the Atlanta Braves, Cisco techbnology played a big role in making that happen.
“We’re developers. We’re landlords. We’re a digital marketing company,” said Gatti. His comments came during an appearance at Cisco Live 2018.
The project turned SunTrust Park and the neighboring mixed-use development, The Battery, into a 365-day destination. The technological advances allowed the Braves to not only enhance customer experience with WiFi and a deep lineup of video, lighting and sound effects but it also made it easier to monetize advertising inside the stadium.
“Our goal from a technology standpoint was we wanted to centralize all the technology inside SunTrust Park and push it out to the Battery Land. So, what we push out to the Battery Land is WiFi in all the common areas. Our digital ad network uses Cisco Vision, audio, video – all of those core functions that we needed,” he said.
The stadium uses a suite of Cisco services, deploying its data center, enterprise networking, security and collaboration products. The Braves say the technology satisfied its one-network requirement, which made it possible for Gatti and his team to have full visibility of the network and ensure its security.
