Leader: Hitachi Vantara
Hitachi fused Hitachi Data Systems, Hitachi Insight Group and Pentaho to form Hitachi Vantara last year to focus on delivering solutions leveraging Internet of Things, analytics and artificial intelligence technologies. The company's SSA portfolio consists of eight models in the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) that all support SSDs in addition to Vantara's own flash module drives. VSP supports a broad range of hypervisors, including container technologies, and a range of backup software and cloud management platforms. Hitachi ranks among the middle of the pack for both execution and vision on the Magic Quadrant.
Strengths: VSP offers native tiering of data to public clouds such as AWS and Microsoft Azure without the need for an additional gateway device. Hitachi Vantara offers strong data protection and resiliency features with a 100 percent uptime guarantee.
Weaknesses: Gartner said the restructuring of the company has resulted in disruptions in customer sales and support relationships. The ability to make an in-place controller upgrade is not available.
